I would like to thank and praise all the staff who looked after me within the short admission. Unfortunately I can’t recall everyone’s name but I literally mean all staff from paramedics, ambulance crew, consultant, drs at all levels, nursing, nursing support. ANP,s, pharmacy housekeepers, domestics and porters.
I witnessed emergencies services who were under extreme pressure to respond on a very busy night and lack of staffing but continued to do their best and provide good care.
Within aau I saw great teamwork in a relentless busy environment. Everyone was pleasant and if they didn’t know the answer they would get back to you as quick as they could.
The staff changed duties constantly to support each other to get the job done and provide what was needed for the patient. They worked well together and all seemed to muck in even if it probably wasn’t their role. They always introduced themselves with any contacts and welcomed people to the unit. They humanised the experience in a very clinical environment.
I consistently saw patients needs being checked on especially those who could not advocate for themselves. There was genuine warmth and humour in the bay even though staff must have been tired and under pressure from all the demands.
Despite the relentless turn over of patient admissions and demands the nurse in charge of the bay juggled this in a very calm and pleasant manner from the start to the finish of the shift. Despite the pressure I witnessed staff doing their best care even though some systems don’t always support but hinder staff to do their job. They were honest with families if there was to be delays in discharge with some things being out of their control.
The speed of getting my CT scans done in radiology was also amazing it was seamless.
