About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as a service user),

After spending almost a week in the most excruciating pain, being completely debilitated, today i finally had some answers and medicines to cure my poor vagina.

I found out today I had herpes, plus an infection. my poor vagina was swollen, full of lesions, and very, very sore. I'd been struggling to wee all week, often crying or howling in pain. To the point i was having to wee in the shower with a fannel placed over my bits. oh, and i have a pile. Just to add to the misery.

It all started on a Friday when I wasnt sure if I had thrush or an uti. I'd taken off the shelf remedies for both, but nothing was making going for a wee easier, so i went to the docs. I didnt actually see the dotor but a nurse instead, She diped tested my urine and found glucose, protein, blood and white blood cells so she sent me away with antibiotics and some cream pessary. Fabulous, I thought. 3 days later im back in the doctors with green gunge, lumps and a worsening of trying to wee. I can barely walk or sit down. I truly didnt know what to do with myself, I was not in a good place, going to the toilet was traumatic and my anxiety was through the roof. But the lady doctors, 2 of them, My doctor wanted to get a second opinion, told me that this was looking like Herpes and not an uti. I was shocked. I'd not been with anyone except my partner of 9 years, And it was highly unlikely that he would have been with anyone else? Anyway she sent me away with more medicines and creams. And quickly referred me to the DSH unit.

Thank goodness, when i received the call from them, i was a little reluctant to come in after all i'd gone from weeing in the shower to biting on a towel. She did explain that this was not ideal and i really should get seen by properly qualified people who have indepth knowledge of sexual health. I agreed. And thankfully i got to meet Sara. Well i hope i have her name correct. What an angel, She agreed my doctors assumption were correct and she also could see, like my doctor what an immense amount of pain and discomfort i was in. She gave me more facts about herpes and explained 78% of us brits carry the virus, Ive just joined that statistic. And it was most probably given to me by my partner that didnt relise that coldsores are herpes and live with you forever. Not that he had any open sores at the time of contact..

So Sara made me feel very at ease, was very gentle with me, and very informative. She gave me more medicines to take away with some numbing gel to help with urination. Finally i feel that these are going to make a difference and im going to get better. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to a truely lovely lady. I will be forever grateful.
