I was unwell last year which occurred quickly with loss of coordination, dizziness, drop of right lip corner, strange sensation in my right leg and heart palpitations. I had difficulty in walking in fact wasn’t able to walk fast and felt as if my breathing was not right. I visited London hospital Emergency department where nothing was diagnosed and I was not monitored and my symptoms were dismissed as if nothing has happened. Then I developed bradycardia with heart rate of just close to 30 and my muscles started to twitch around my shoulders but again I was told there is nothing that they can do for me and did not do any special tests or referrals.
Later as I was not improving I paid for the GP assessment at Cleveland Clinic where nothing was diagnosed either in fact I got worse almost lost consciousness whilst in a cafe but when ambulance arrived I was feeling better and I was seen once again at the hospital Emergency department as if I wasted their time. By then it felt as if I developed Parkinson’s disease just out of blue with stiffness and shuffling gait but doctor there who saw me said my gait was normal and requested to leave A&E. But I felt so unwell almost unable to move that I had to stay there until the next morning.
Many hospital staff walked past and saw me lying on the chairs nobody showed any concern or offered any help. After almost 24 hours without much food or water there I felt somewhat better as if something started to clear out of my system and I got second opinion but doctor was not prepared to see my symptoms as I described them and take it seriously.
I gave feedback but no hospital took anything on board as I received no full investigation, in fact most response were not read because all these NHS experiences became just a mental trauma now.
I decided not to seek further help as it was clear there is no help there for me whether in the GP surgery or hospital. In fact the manager of the GP surgery I was registered with refused to do referral when I lost weight and found a breast lump. It was dealt with as a breast cyst many months later but many must recognise how bad stuff became if non-clinical staff feel safe to decline serious referrals.
I spent almost six months doing little work as I hardly was able to move and at most walked outside very slowly feeling as if I may collapse with heart pounding and legs feeling strange. I perceived room as being tilted and was unable to walk the stairs as if I cannot get my steps right and at times was not able to stand up in the shower. My oxygen saturation kept dropping to 86% and severe bradycardia kept coming back. My sleep became not right and I felt as if I do not rest well. My eyes developed classical glassy stare and pupils were at times dilated particularly the right one.
I cried daily to see this treatment accepted in the NHS but still focused on ways to heal myself without drugs and discovered foods that helped me to feel better and the ones that made me worse. I felt so isolated and did not trust anyone but myself.
I purchased Apple Watch to work on my Vo2max but it was not going well. I got myself continuous glucose monitor Dexcom which started flagging hypoglycaemia of moderate level. iPhone Apple Health recorded reduced walking steadiness over four months so technology performed better than qualified medical staff at emergency departments.
I saw that medical assessments deteriorated over the years but just now when I visited emergency department with moderate hypoglycaemia, they did no examination whatsoever. I contacted PALS there but their vague email was not promising.
I suppose I must be running moderate to severe hypoglycaemia for almost a year that deteriorated my brain functioning, memory in fact a few times I couldn’t find my way out of a small shopping mall. This acceptable medicine quality in the UK makes me very sad but nothing that I can do now.
