"I felt safe, looked after and I was treated with dignity"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had a severe asthma attack in Motherwell, my colleagues called an ambulance and I received a fast response paramedic within minutes to intervene. Another ambulance turned up five or so minutes later, while I was already on a nebuliser in very good hands with a paramedic (I’m so sorry I cannot remember his name).

I was terrified because I could not breathe and this was the worst asthma attack I have ever experienced. The two crew who assisted me into the ambulance were so reassuring, both men looked after me, gave me adrenaline and further nebulisers while I was taken to Wishaw hospital in blue lights.

I arrived at the hospital and was taken straight through to Resus. I was then met by a doctor (I am sure his name was Adam) and a team of nurses (Joyce, Anna and Ashley).

The nurses attended to me right away as well as the doctor and another consultant came down to see me taking blood gases, hanging up IVs and even though I was completely aware this was an emergency situation I felt safe, looked after and I was treated with dignity and respect.

Please pass my thanks on to the team, everyone who came into that department to come to me was warm, welcoming and they saved my life without a doubt.

I will forever be thankful for my colleagues quick response and the paramedics, the student nurses, nursing team and doctors.

Hi AnneR23,

I'm really sorry to hear about your severe asthma attack recently. That must have been an incredibly scary experience not being able to breathe properly and I hope you're doing ok.

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write in to share your experience and your amazing comments about our staff at the Scottish Ambulance Service. It's great to see that you were so well looked after and that they were able to provide reassurance and calmness in what must have been such a stressful situation.

Thanks again for your very kind words. Our staff always really appreciate patients getting in touch to say thank you.

All the best and take care.

Mark
