Recently I attended an outpatient appointment to have bloods taken at the Elderpark Clinic, Govan in Glasgow. My name was called by the healthcare support worker who introduced himself and said that a colleague would be sitting in if that was okay. The colleague introduced herself as well. During the initial discussion there was a knock at the door and his colleague asked if it was okay to answer it. My date of birth was checked before proceeding and universal precautions were used. I was made to feel welcome, and they engaged in conversation because they were interested in me. Such person centred care. Well done guys, you are not praised enough for your professionalism.
There has been occasions when I have been an outpatient in other contexts and this has fallen short of what I would expect so I am heartened by the two healthcare support workers.
