I have been married to my husband for forty years and he has had the above conditions thoughout that time he has been a service user of secondary mental health care all of that time.
There have been many times I have been at breaking point due to the constant stress his conditions cause within the family. I have recently been allocated support from the carers support team. The lady I see is fantastic as she has family members of her own with the same conditions and totally gets my situation.
I see her at home on a monthly basis and can contact her whenever I am struggling. She gives me information on other help I am entitled to and is there if I need her in a crisis.
I would recommend to any one who is struggling to cope to ask for this support. I no longer feel that I am totally alone and this has also had a positive impact on my own mental health.
