"Fantastic Phone First Service"

About: GP out of hours / Phone First The Ulster Hospital / Minor Injury Unit

(as a service user),

After a few days of intense shoulder pain and it only getting worse, I wasn't sure if i should wait to speak to a doctor, go to minor injuries or just leave it so I googled what to do. This is how I discovered the Phone First service.

I got to speak to a polite, knowledgeable and empathetic nurse. She checked my symptoms, made sure it wasn't anything more serious and guided me on exactly what to do. I was told to go to minor injuries to get some help and told the various minor injuries locations available closest to me. I went to the minor injuries unit at the Ulster Hospital. There I was seen to by excellent medical staff - triaged, x-rayed and informed that I had a torn ACJ/rotator cuff. They provided with a sling, some pain medication (cocodamol due to not being able to take ibuprofen) and instructed me on exercises to do over the next few weeks to help heal my shoulder.

All in all this was a fantastic service that allowed me to get exactly the help I needed and without taking up spaces in a busy A&E unit. I would 100% recommend anyone use this service to find out what to do in a medical situation where they are unsure of how to move forward. This service will absolutely help take some of the pressure off the A&E department.
Amazing service, amazing medical professionals!
