I have recently undergone elective surgery, total right hip replacement at Pontefract hospital.
I will at this point state I wasn't expecting my short stay to be anything better than a nightmare, we've all heard how the NHS is on its knees. However, how wrong could my perception gave been. From pre operation to discharge I was treated with compassion, dignity and efficiency second to none.
Non medical porters, reception, tea lady al without exception went above and beyond what is expected of them. They were polite, helpful and cheerful, and undertook there role with great style. Medical and care staff, we're so busy, but each had time to attend my care in an unwavering and stoic and caring way.
On one occasion, whilst being trollied to xray, the Porter entered discussion with me, he could see I was in pain and struggling. The guy spoke calmly, encouragingly, and related his experiences to me on such a personal and supportive way. He relayed that it won't be like this for long and will get better as time passes, he gave me a pep talk that gave me hope and support, in such a casual, yet caring way. Caught in a moment ill not forget.
So in short, Ponte hospital, is a little gem, a beacon of light in what sometimes feels like a dense fog. Thank you to the people who make it happen, you doi g a great job long may it continue.
With heartfelt gratitude, thank-you one and all.
