"Delayed and incorrect diagnosis "

About: Salford Royal

My Daughter is currently an inpatient . She was admitted last Friday by ambulance as she was in severe pain. Despite having been to her local GP several times since Mar h 2025 and being told she was ok, she has suffered repeated bouts of severe abdominal and back pain. Finally the diagnosis was pancreatitis with suspected necrosis. She was told she needed gallbladder removal but the waiting list was 3 months. How is it in the case of an emergency you do not act but have to wait until the emergency becomes life threatening?

Dear Mr Poole

Thank you for your post and we are sorry to hear about the decline in your daughter’s health and appreciate the distress caused by conflicting diagnosis and delays in treatment.

Emergency care is provided based on clinical priority, however as we do not have details of your daughter’s specific care episode, we encourage you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) either via 0161 778 5665 between 09:30 hours and 16:30 hours Monday to Friday or email pals@nca.nhs.uk. This will allow the PALS team to investigate further and respond to your family directly.

Kind regards

The Patient Experience Team
