"Feedback from a biopsy"

About: County Hospital Louth / General surgery Lincoln County Hospital / Oncology

(as the patient),

I had a biopsy in early September 24 on a lump on my tongue.

After 7 months, I still hadn't received feedback on whether the results showed any cancerous cells, so I contacted Louth hospital to try to obtain the results. I was transferred to Lincoln hospital who said they would investigate the reasons for me not receiving the results. After a week, I received a text appointment for a feedback session. I needed to change the date and time, as it was originally set for a time I could not make. I eventually received a call from a doctor 8 months and 1 week after my biopsy. Fortunately the results were all good, and the doctor did apologise, stating I had been 'missed' on the system for my results feedback. An awful long time for me to worry.

Thank you for sharing your experience. we're so sorry to hear about the prolonged wait you endured following your biopsy—it’s completely understandable that this caused you a great deal of anxiety. Eight months is an unacceptably long time to wait for such important results, especially when it concerns something as serious as a potential cancer diagnosis.

While it’s reassuring to hear that the outcome was positive and that the doctor acknowledged the oversight.

We are sorry that you had to go through this.
