"The system works very well"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy

(as the patient),

Staff here have all been brilliant. They are friendly and helpful - no problem there whatsoever.

For me treatment has been absolutely fine. The hour’s driving here could be a problem if there is an accident on the road or there are road works en route from where I live. Then there is car parking which is very difficult - most of the time my wife brings me here, goes away somewhere and then comes back to collect me.

You are in here for an hour before you are actually on the table. Usually there are no delays and you get through the process quite quickly. My schedule of appointments has been good - I asked for morning appointments and this has been organised pretty well. The system works very well and is efficient.

One small criticism is that the seats in the waiting room are not very comfortable.

However, the chairs outside the treatment rooms are much better.

Also the clinic would benefit from more toilets.

I feel that they don’t emphasise how bad the side effects are going to be. I think they should be a bit more truthful about the symptoms, ie you cannot go anywhere without being close to a toilet, and this could go on for 2-4 weeks after treatment has ended. You can get medication for this but I find it doesn’t work very well.

Getting old is not good!!

Dear tommy162,

My name is Jenna-one of the therapeutic radiographers from the radiotherapy team. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback for us. I will ensure that I pass on your compliments to the staff as this is always appreciated. I'm glad we were able to accommodate your preference for appointment times aswell.

We get alot of comments about the car park and this can add more stress onto the situation that it should, I do apologise. For patients like yourself who are needing to come in earlier to do drinking preparation for us, it really can take up alot of your time and isn't ideal if you then need to wait for a space. We will pass on to our Head of Radiotherapy about the car park who can take it to further meetings, I can also mention the chairs and we definitely could do with more toilets when they are being used by so many.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't feel as prepared as you could have been for the side effects you experienced. This is something I can feedback to the team and we can reflect how best to do this.

Please do get in touch if you have any further suggestions for this or if the medication you were given is not working for you and we can perhaps offer some advice.

Take care, Jenna
