"Quitting smoking for good"

About: Quit your Way / Quit your way (community)

(as a service user),

Here I am again, I done so well but unfortunately started smoking again. I was disappointed in myself but when I attended the clinic at Clydebank Health Centre my advisor Louise did not judge me but welcomed me back with a big smile and the reassurance that sometimes it takes a few quit attempts to quit for good. We talked through what happened that made me smoke again after being quit for months and came up with a plan on coping with stressful events in other ways.

Louise talked me through a map sheet which I found really helpful writing things down and gave me ideas on  things to change and keep me busy and motivated. I am using patches and wee lozenges which are really great it's when I finish my 12 weeks that I struggle so the sheet has helped me come up with an action plan for staying quit. My reading has gone from 21 down to 1 and that makes me feel good, my cough has gone and my wheezing at night has disappeared. I now have a great appetite and can taste my food better. My 2 sisters are really proud of me. I also have more money in my pocket and as a pensioner that is great. I would encourage anyone to get in touch with the stop smoking people. I feel so much healthier and I can't thank Louise enough.

Dear Gordon53

Thank you for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. We understand that quitting smoking can be challenging and that setbacks are a common part of the journey. It is encouraging to hear how Louise and the team at Clydebank Health Centre provided you with compassionate, non-judgmental support and practical tools such as the map sheet and nicotine replacement therapies to help you stay on track.

Your progress—from improved lung function and reduced symptoms to better appetite and financial savings—demonstrates the significant health benefits of quitting smoking. We commend your resilience and commitment, and we hope your story encourages others to seek support from stop smoking services.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you continued success on your journey to better health.

Kind regards

Kevin
