"Elderly social services team"

About: Older People’s Services / Social Worker for older people

(as a relative),

I was helping to look after my mum since I had to bring her home as could see what was going on over the phone, mum lived in England for years. Mum eventually got a wee house in a fold and I had to get social services involved as I couldn't look after her on my own as I'm an only child.  They came out and done an assessment and got a care package set up even though mum was reluctant, at first for ages she wouldn't allow them to do anything.

Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and vascular dementia in 2022. I have never really got on with mum's social worker because all they ever seem to do is make excuses for mum and don't appear to have a clue about mum's condition. We did have a good social worker that could see through mum, but sadly they took a job closer to home so we were back to square one again!

Another social worker then started, who I found to be really unprofessional and have no empathy. Mum is doubly incontinent and has been for ages and her lying wet for hours on end as I said to the social worker on the day I told them I had to step back as it was taking its toll on me health wise.

I emailed this social worker's boss and I have done so three times and not once have I got a reply to one of those emails.

They recently sent in a doctor to assess mum and they told my oldest son that they are trying to get the Trust to take over my mum's finances. Sadly mum isn't drinking much and carer had to call for an ambulance, they said she was dehydrated.

We have not received any phone calls from the care provider or from the social workers to let me know about this. The social workers were told that if anything happened regarding mum when I have walked away that I wanted to be told, as I'm next of kin! The lack of care is something else.
