"Surgery to remove part of thyroid"

About: Bassetlaw Hospital / General surgery Doncaster Royal Infirmary / General surgery

(as the patient),

I came under the care of Mr Mulla and his team in April 2024 when the right side of my thyroid had grown to a size that was having a significant impact on my everyday life.  I was given the option to have the offending part removed and I recently had surgery.

There was a waiting list but I also needed to be in a position to afford the recovery time off. Mr Mulla’s secretary was incredibly friendly and understanding and my interactions with her were an indication of the wonderful care I received from everyone concerned in my surgery.

Please forgive the fact that I have forgotten names but I would like to praise everyone concerned.  Mr Mulla, the consultant anaesthetist, the registrars, the nurses, the health care assistants, the pre-op nurses and of course Mr Mulla’s secretary.

I was on S12 immediately after surgery and again, the care was exemplary. It would appear my thyroid lobe was quite impressive and there were one or two watching the surgery so I’m pleased it was a worthwhile experience :)

I was anxious about this surgery, possibly because it was my neck but I needn’t have worried, and should at some future point I need the left side removed too, I have complete confidence in the entire team at DRI and Bassetlaw Hospitals.

Please do pass on my my official and deepest thanks and best wishes to all involved as I feel it is too easy to criticise the NHS and yet it is still the most amazing institution, even with the financial confines it has.

I should also add that the food was tasty and there was plenty of it.  I was only in for one night before being allowed to continue my recovery at home, but I am incredibly grateful for the care I received and the standard of care was wonderful.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your kind feedback. It is great to hear that you were well looked after throughout your hospital journey, by all members of staff involved.

I hope you are recovering well and in time for summer!

Best wishes,

Dionne
