The weeks leading up to my colposcopy were filled with constant stress. Even though I tried to stay calm, I couldn’t stop overthinking. I was worried about the procedure, the results, and everything that comes with medical uncertainty. Not knowing exactly what to expect only made my anxiety grow as the day approached.
On the day of my appointment, I woke up with a knot in my stomach. Still, I knew I had to be brave and face it. As soon as I arrived at Pilgrim Hospital, Women’s Ward, everything started to shift. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by incredibly warm and empathetic staff.
Ms Rao, the doctor who performed the procedure, welcomed me with a calm smile and a gentle voice. She patiently explained each step of the colposcopy without rushing, in a clear and reassuring way. Her professionalism, combined with sincere empathy, made me feel like I was in good hands.
Nurse Ema was an absolute ray of sunshine. She spoke to me with such friendliness and warmth that, without even realizing it, my stress began to melt away. She kept me company, made me smile, and helped me relax during a moment that otherwise would have been overwhelming.
Suzie and Janet, from the health care team, were also incredibly kind and attentive. Their small, thoughtful gestures made a big difference. They treated me with respect and gentleness, and that made me feel like more than just a patient—I felt seen, understood, and supported.
The procedure itself was short and, to my surprise, far less stressful than I had imagined. Thanks to these wonderful people, what could have been a heavy and anxious day turned into a truly human and dignified experience.
I am deeply grateful for the way I was treated, and I want anyone going through a medical procedure to know that empathy and professionalism make all the difference.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms Rao, Nurse Ema, Suzie, and Janet. Without them, my day would have looked very different.
