"Crown House - CMHT"

About: Adult Mental Health Services / Adult Community Mental Health Service

(as a service user),

Such a lack of communication amongst the team was a big issue. I was assessed in December 2023. The assessment was very difficult as the staff member came across as judgemental - especially when I told them I work in mental health services. I was also told at the assessment, maybe you just need to shower and get on with your days.

I was referred to the primary care team. After a couple of appointments the nurse I was seeing suggested I may need further input from CMHT, specifically mentioning psychology, and advised they'd discuss this at their next MDT meeting. Continued attending appointments in the mean time with the idea of psychology and CMHT being mentioned but no follow up info being provided so I didn't know if it had been discussed. Eventually I was advised I'd be sent an appointment from CMHT which I received and was under the impression it would be psychology or a nurse. I was met with an occupational therapist which had never been discussed or mentioned and I felt was an inappropriate use of service as what they were offering was supporting me with day to day tasks which I was mostly managing, despite them being challenging at times. There was no discussion of psychology or the chance to work through my trauma as had been discussed with primary care worker. I was told this was not an option at the time and felt let down and mislead.

Dear bekind11

I am sorry to read about your experience of Community Mental Health Services at Crown House which you found judgemental and misleading during your contact.

My expectation is that everyone attending our service should feel they have been treated non-judgementally, been included in decision making about their required support and be clear about what their plan of care is. This also extends to inclusion and communication about any further changes to individual plans in a way that is clear and supportive.

I believe the intention will not have been to negatively affect you however this has clearly been the case. We always need to be mindful of the impact of how decisions are reached by communicating compassionately and helpfully. I will pick these points up with the teams to reiterate expectations to support improving service user experience within our service delivery.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I hope things are better for you now. If you wish to discuss further this can be directed to the duty team lead at Crown House on 01475 558000 in the first instance or in writing to me at Crown House, 30 King Street, Greenock PA15 1NN.

Best wishes

Alan
