On being taken to A&E by ambulance, my dad was left in a corridor and when I tried to find where he was A&E told me that he was in MAU. I went to MAU and was told that my dad was in A&E. Checked with A&E staff again, still no joy. Eventually after an hour and a half, they found my dad, he had been left in a corridor and ignored.
He had asked for water and been told no he would get this once he was on the ward. Once he arrived at MAU he was again left in a corridor in pain. I asked if he could have some pain medication, which was refused and I was told if I had any just to give it to him.
I also asked if he could be repositioned as by this time he had been lying on the trolley for over 2 and a half hours. I was again told no, they would do this when they got a bed for him. I explained that he already has a pressure sore and was told they were too busy and he would be moved once they had a bed for him. I had to reposition him myself.
He eventually got a bed just before midnight after arriving at the hospital just after 8pm. Once he got the bed I was told that I would need to leave and that they would be ok. I explained that dad would need help communicating due to previous stroke, again they said to leave as they know what they are doing. At 4.30am I received a call from the doctor to clarify a few things. The doctor told me that they were going to stop one of his medications, which had been stopped 8 days earlier.
On the Friday night, just after 11pm, they transferred my dad to ward 18. When I visited on the Saturday I noted that he was wearing a hospital gown, I enquired why and was told that he had no clothes. On Friday there were 4 clean sets of clothes plus the clothes that he was wearing. I spoke to staff who said that he did not come with any from MAU. I visited MAU to be shown some stuff and asked it that was what I was looking for, they were not. I was told it is not their responsibility to look after patient clothing.
This is common as the last 2 times that dad has been in hospital they have lost his clothes. Dad is bed bound and unable to get to his locker, let alone see what is in it. The staff seemed amused at the fact that this year alone they have lost upwards of £500 worth of clothing. Telling me that is was probably sent to the laundry ad I wouldn't get it back and that I should have taken better care of his clothes. I was not in the hospital when he was moved and the clothes were in his suitcase that the staff had taken out of the case and put in the bedside cabinet.
I would appreciate it if someone could look into this and maybe actually find out what is happening to dad's clothing and the standards of care, before I am forced to take this to a lawyer.
His care has been shocking, as whenever you speak to anyone they tell you a different story. It seemingly takes them forever to actually do any work. They constantly try to give my dad morphine, which is on his records that he has an intolerance to. This has been administered on at lease one occasion without dad consenting to it. I think that this needs to be looked I to before something more serious happens
