"The Wonderful Care From My Health Visitor"

About: Fife Community Services / Health Visiting

(as a parent/guardian),

My son at a very young age displayed symptoms of ADHD, although diagnosis of ADHD is not made until the child is 6yrs old, I was aware of the symptoms far earlier. As a new parent my days were (and still are) a whirlwind, we live in a house where the volume is always turned up or getting trashed, we have the joy of watching our child’s boundless creativity and energy, paired with the exhaustion of managing impulsivity, inattention & on high alert so we don't have a momentary lapse leading to a dangerous incident.

Our health visitor was an absolute godsend during the early years of navigating my son’s ADHD diagnosis. From the moment I shared my concerns, she listened with such compassion, never dismissing my worries as just parenting. She took time to explain what ADHD could look like, gave me practical tips to manage his boundless energy, and connected us with the right specialists for assessments.

Her check-ins felt like a lifeline, she’d call to see how we were coping, offer encouragement when I felt overwhelmed, and celebrate every small milestone with us. She even helped me fill out daunting referral forms and spoke to nursery staff to ensure they understood his needs. Her support turned a confusing, isolating process into something manageable, giving me confidence and hope. I’ll always be grateful for her warmth and dedication—she was more than a health visitor; she was our guide and cheerleader.

I fell pregnant with my daughter and I couldn't be any happier to see her back at my door again supporting me. As it goes, my daughter also has her challenges with suspected ADHD / Autism. She’s stepped up once more with the same warmth and dedication for my younger child. She’s helping us navigate new assessments, offering resources for suspected ADHD and autism, and checking in to ensure we’re coping. Having her support a second time feels like a blessing—she’s not just a health visitor but a trusted guide who’s made both journeys less isolating. I couldn’t be happier or more grateful for her unwavering care.
