Had the most wonderful pregnancy, birth, and postnatal experience in the Scottish Borders.
Lynsay (my community midwife) was especially thorough, reassuring, friendly and confidence-inspiring with a clear wealth of knowledge. She is a credit to her profession and it is little wonder her reputation in the community is so excellent.
My experience in the Borders General Hospital was a world different from my previous birth at a different hospital - it felt like VIP service! When I called with queries, responses were quick and helpful. The staff present for the birth and immediate aftercare were all truly excellent - I felt in calm, capable hands at all times and the experience was deeply personal rather than “conveyer belt”. Nothing seemed too much trouble and everything was explained clearly and was reassuringly by the book. I opted for gas and air and a water birth as my “plan A” and that is exactly what I got - the birth was straightforward, and I have no doubt that the competence and attitudes of staff contributed towards this successful outcome. Again - it is little wonder people speak so highly of the BGH maternity unit.
A very settled start has led to a very settled baby (and a happy mum), and I will be forever grateful to all staff involved for their high level of professionalism and compassionate care.
