"Sad times"

I took my husband to urgent care due to a fall. I explained he has had a few falls which is due to his disability. The nurse in triage explained that the doctor will stop seeing him if he has frequent falls. If he dosent have a fall within 2years then that is different. She couldn't explain more about it when I asked why she just said that's what the rules are. My husband has paid taxes all his life until recently why would they refuse him treatment. On this occasion we were diverted to Blackburn for another triage. I just think it's shocking she could say that without a reasonable explanation.

Dear Carol,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on NHS Website about your husband’s recent visit to the Minor Injuries Unit at Acorn Primary Health Care Centre.

I am extremely sorry to hear of your recent experience and your comments have been fed back to the senior staff for the department. The Lead Emergency Nurse Practitioner wants you to be reassured this would not be the case and every patient would be assessed on individual clinical need.

Your husband was redirected to Royal Blackburn Hospital for assessment and appointed to be seen by a doctor due to the appointments being full to capacity upon arrival at the Minor Injuries Unit.

Kindly be assured that the department manager will speak to the triage nurse to establish the concerns around the history of the falls.

If you would like your concerns to be further investigated, you can contact our Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further.

Kind Regards

Sarah Ridehalgh
