"My struggle"

About: CGL Birmingham / South Hub

(as a service user),

I was Ill for sometime which meant i became withdrawn and isolated, so I turned to alcohol and  cannabis just to get through the days. Luckily i was able to improve my illness so I no longer needed to be isolated, however I had now become accustomed to those vices. It took great discipline and commitment to stop, but once I did I started feeling better, I attended  CGL workshops to help maintain my sobriety and combat my addiction. The workshop offers a lot of useful information and resources for those who seek to change.

Dear Yasser

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

My name is Lydia and I am responsible for listening and responding to feedback about our support.

I was sorry to read about your struggles with you health, and how this impacted on the wider aspects of your life. It sounds like the isolation you experienced due to your illness was a really tough time in your life, and I can understand why you chose to try and fill that void by using substances.

I'm was really glad to hear that you were able to improve your illness, and I hope your health remain stables and continues to improve as time goes by.

The fact that you identified the need to try and address your alcohol and cannabis use once you were in better health, shows great levels of self awareness and I am so glad that you reached out to us for support.

It sounds like you had a really positive attitude towards making changes in your life and I hope you feel proud of the determination you showed and the motivation it must have taken to become alcohol and cannabis free which is no mean feat.

It was great to read that you found our support helpful, and I hope that other people who may be struggling with their addiction will read your feedback so that it may encourage them to take the same steps that you did and make similar changes.

I have shared your feedback with our South Hub team, which was greatly appreciated.

Thank you once again for getting in touch with us and I wish you all the very best for the future.

Best wishes,

Lydia
