"My NHS Experince"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Accident & Emergency NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I have recently attended Inverclyde Royal Hospital as, unbeknown to me, I had a couple of infections that were taking me into a Sepsis condition.

I was initially taken in via Ambulance, A&E, an Assessment ward, J North, then into J South. After an intensive week of medication, care & attention I was released.

On reflection I thought I'd share my whole experience. I'm in my early 60s and, touch wood, I've enjoyed a healthy life, which has included not  having to attend Hospital, so this was a real shock to the system.

However, whatever shock I may have been experiencing was soon put to rest by all the Doctors & Nurses who were off-the-chart fantastic in everything they did. They looked after me, cared for me, talked to me, made me feel safe & secure in every way.

There were so many who cared for me, (I wish I could recall all), but in particular, Paige in J North & Robyn in J South were outstandingly brilliant in their care, support & attention to detail, for which I'll be forever grateful.

There's always media chat (from so many angles) concerning NHS, which I've probably never fully focussed on, however after this experience I feel better positioned. My NHS journey was exceptional, from the initial call to the NHS-24, the Ambulance drivers, and all in the Hospital.

They do more than their job, they go above & beyond in all that they do each & every day, i was blown away & truly humbled.

P.S. from the J North ward I could see my house, which was weird & comforting, and has now led me to say a good-night in the Hospital's direction every night as it's much more than just a building to me now, it's where my life was enhanced forever.

Dear quebecjm34,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I note there are a few services tagged in your story, I reply on behalf of NHS 24.

I was sorry to learn you had cause to contact 111 and were later admitted to hospital. I understand this must have been a very worrying time.

It is great to hear that you found your care was exceptional from your initial call to 111, through to your experience in hospital.

If you wish to share more information with me, including your Care Opinion user name then I could identify the staff you spoke with from NHS 24 and share your kind words with them. We always try to ensure our staff see positive feedback to reinforce to them how valued their care is when people call our services.

You can contact me by email at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk.

Thank you again for sharing your experience.

I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery,

Stephanie
