Last week, following ligament repair surgery at Raigmore Hospital, I was fitted with a synthetic plaster cast. Having previously had a plaster of Paris cast for this injury, I could not get over the difference in quality and comfort of the synthetic plaster cast. I am led to believe that patients of Caithness General cannot receive this type of cast simply because it is not available here. I would like to know the reason why patients of Caithness General are not able to access the same standard of treatment as those in Raigmore. Having a synthetic cast opposed to the cumbersome plaster of Paris is a startling contrast. I also feel this would benefit the practitioners responsible for fitting casts, as synthetic offer a much quicker and cleaner application.
