"Long appointment delay"

About: Outpatients Services / Level 8B Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

My appointment was in the morning & I arrived 30 minutes before & seen straight away by nurse for sight & pressure tests, I then waited in the corridor to be called, after waiting an hour past my appointment time, I went to reception & was told I’d be called soon, I then waited for a further hour & went back to reception to be told they were behind schedule.

While waiting I was told by other patients that they too had been waiting since early morning too. I understand the NHS is struggling but to have posters re: missed appointment costs, but patients have jobs too, I had to call my job several times stating the delay as I was due back at lunch time.

I also felt insulted when they asked if I was keeping my eyelids clean (1st time in 20yrs that has been stated)

Dear NewYork2011,

I apologise for the waiting times to be seen in clinic. We have had a new consultant start in clinic who has had to be trained on the new patient record system. This has unfortunately led to some delays.

Lid hygiene is one of the key questions when reviewing some ophthalmic issues. I am sorry that you felt insulted by this question. I can assure you that it was not meant as an insult.

Regards

Adam
