"Coming to A&E"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency Medway Maritime Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

Came to A&E at Medway Hospital, got there about 9 pm booked in, took a while to be seen, got seen, had a cat urine bag put in, waited a bit to go up to ward, a nurse took me up,  got put into Arethusa ward,  wife there with a young doctor!

I was having trouble with the urine bag as I don't think it was filling properly, anyway wife went, I fell asleep, next day I was wet, the sheet was wet and the floor wet, a nurse helped me to change the sheet and strip me, gave me a wash down and gave me some pyjamas,  all ok ,then the staff nurse Fiona came over, I told her that I think the cat urine bag was blocked, she want off with another nurse, came back with two big syringes, disconnected the tube and then inserted it into the tube filling my bladder full then taking out all the dark blood out, this was done 5 times until the blood clots and the water run clear.

I would like to thank staff nurse Fiona and the nurse who performed on me, it helped me to be more comfortable, after that I can't fault the service of the nursing staff, the tea lady, the cleaning lads and dinner guy.

I was told I was going home, my wife came up at 8 am, by the time I got my medicine we left about 4.30, happy to get home, thank to all staff, special thanks to staff nurse Fiona and to the male nurse who I gave my Saturday paper to.
