"Mental Health Assessment Unit, Leverndale"

About: Leverndale Hospital / Mental Health

(as a service user),

I attended the mental health assessment unit at Leverndale following an emergency appointment arranged by my GP.

I struggle at times to express my feelings and experiences but did my best through the assessment, my mum also gave some information to both nurses who had assessed me. Upon feedback from assessment, both myself and my mum were given information about medication changes that would be recommended which I agreed to, however this information was not relayed to my GP therefore this cannot be actioned.

I also was told I did not meet the criteria for primary care mental health or community mental health teams, so was only provided with crisis team contacts - despite telling the staff I struggle with over the phone contact. This has meant that I have had no follow up from any mental health team or my GP. By the end of assessment and feedback I had become quite distressed by the process and outcomes, feeling I was being sent home with no plan in place.

Both staff members had become visibly frustrated, however one was confrontational in manner, speaking over me, not allowing me to explain my feelings or thought processes and overall had an unpleasant and non-compassionate approach.

Over a week since the appointment and I have had no follow up, my GP has been provided with incorrect information regarding the assessment outcomes and have been advised the assessment outcomes cannot be altered. I feel deeply let down by the current mental health system and feel there is a gap in services.

Dear bekind11

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the mental health assessment unit. We are sorry to hear that you found the process distressing and that the follow-up care has not met your expectations.

The service would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you. If you feel able, can you please contact Lynsey Hecht, Service manager, on 0141 211 6626.

Thank you

Nicole
