"Very grateful to the team"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Accident and emergency Russells Hall Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as a service user),

I attended Russells Hall hospital A+E last September (2024) presenting with acute rectal bleeding. I was seen after a few hours waiting (there was quite a queue!).

I was admitted to wards for three days under Miss MacLeod consultant. The three days in the wards showed me just how fantastic the nurses are at that hospital. After a few very thorough rectal examinations and scans with Dr Mahmood, I was referred for surgery to Prof Ishaq (consultant Gastro Intestinal) in December 2024. Mr Kumar (consultant colorectal) was involved in the decision as was his team.

The surgery was completed by Prof Ishaq which involved the removal of a rectal polyp which had bled. This was successful and I was really pleased that I had been operated on by a prestigious renowned surgeon as Prof Ishaq. He talked me through beforehand how it would be done so I had no doubts as to what to expect. He's an absolutely brilliant surgeon and I'm very grateful to him and his team.

The theatre nurses in every rectal examination by him and Dr Mahmood were really good - quietly confident and very gentle which was very reassuring.

Please pass on my thanks to all the nurses, doctors involved. But particularly to Prof Ishaq - clearly a brilliant man.
