"Complete lack of due care and attention"

About: Newham General Hospital

Admitted with severe abdominal pain evening of Easter Sunday - diagnosed as acute infection of gall bladder A+E unable to cope with volume of admittance - staff appeared to do a lot of walking around and little doing - to the extent that pain relief given was patiently asked for and not given after 4 hours lapse - further 6 hors lapsed before other doses were administered - left on bed in corridor for 14 hours- moved other majors ward - 17 hours lapsed and no pain relief given - one dose or oromorph given prior to doctors round - noticeable disparity of care given to those who shouted the loudest and those whose family members protested en masse to nursing staff - complete disregard for patient comfort - when next bed had upto 7 family members present throughout the day despite being constantly told that only 2 members to be present - final move to theatre ward at 5am - level of care much improved - dis charged with pain relief medication and the possibility of a surgery date within 4 weeks of discharge - having paid NHS contributions for over 30 years and have never relied on the NHS for any serious illness the level of care merited that of a 3rd world country - staff were indifferent - no explanations regarding types of pain relief given - doctors at best offered the briefest of explanations - nursing staff lacked compassion care and attention to detail
