I recently had bilateral knee replacements at Stobhill ACH Day Surgery and Ward A.
From the beginning of my journey I felt well informed. I met Mr Jones as an OP who explained in detail what was required for my surgery and consented me for my surgery. The fracture staff were amazing as I have difficult venous access but Duncan used his skills to obtain bloods.
Denise, Mr Jones' secretary, was efficient and kept me up to date at every stage and was very kind. The pre op staff were efficient and I met Duncan again who was professional at every stage of my assessment. I received a call from a pharmacist prior to my admission who informed me of my medication post op. This put me at ease and this medication was waiting for me on discharge. Fabulous service.
On the day of my surgery was seamless from the admin staff at the day surgery reception, to the nurse who admitted me, anaesthetic nurse who made me feel very relaxed and the fantastic anaesthetist Mr Al-ani who took his time to explain everything and put me at ease to the recovery staff who cared for me to a high standard. I was moved to Ward A where I was cared for again to a very high standard where nothing was an issue. Special mention to the student nurse Gavin who will make a very good nurse as he was kind, patient and considerate exactly the qualities a nurse should have.
Within a few hours of my bilateral knee replacements I met a physio who enabled me to get out of bed, walk with crutches and complete stair practice and ultimately I was discharged on the same day of surgery. He was patient, reassuring and encouraging to enable me to do something I was very anxious about. I then met with the OT who had contacted me the night before who provided me with a frame for my toilet and very useful tips for my home.
Overall my experience was first class, seamless and proud of the NHS care that I received from the start to finish of my journey.
"My experience was first class"
