"Definitely one of the best things Altnagelvin have to offer"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

I called the Minor Injury clinic for advice as my child had injured himself after falling off a scooter. The nurse who called back was very professional, helpful and friendly. She offered my son an appointment time and advised to keep giving pain relief.

I attended the clinic with my son who was very nervous/anxious. Check in with as very quick and easy and the wait was no longer than a few minutes before being called in to a treatment room.

After nurse practitioner Ciaran examined my son’s injury and talked to him in a very caring and calming matter, he was sent swiftly for an X-ray. This was also just a few minutes wait.

The radiographer was great with my son, very quick and thorough. We had another few minutes wait in the waiting room for the results of the X-ray. Ciaran then called us back and talked us through the X-ray. He was very patient and thorough, showing my son that he had in fact broken a bone. He was friendly and professional at all times which really helped my son. My son was then given the correct support splint and advice on aftercare and we were able to go home. The whole experience was just over 1 hour.

The Minor Injury clinic in my opinion is definitely one of the best things Altnagelvin have to offer, a quick visit and appropriate treatment saved us hours sitting in A&E. The waiting room is calm and not overcrowded and the staff are excellent. I can’t recommend the clinic enough. It would be great if other services at the hospital were run like the minor injury clinic.

Thank you to all the staff especially Ciaran who cared for my son so well.
