"Disappointed with the level of care I received"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurology (Ward 53 and 67)

(as the patient),

I attend ward 53 (Neurological ward) for 5 weekly infusions.  I reported I had been feeling ill for a couple of days . They took  blood and quickly realised my infection markers were raised (242) 2 days previous they had been 2.

I was admitted and referred to ward 9, who informed me through the nurses on ward 53  there was no bed space for me, but I should be started on IV antibiotics and fluids. Through an ultrasound scan they discovered I had an infected and inflamed gallbladder.

They tried to refer me to my local hospital RAH, that also had no bed space for me. As a result of this I was left on ward  53, only being seen twice by the  doctors from ward  9 where I should have been from admission.

As ward  53 closes on a Friday I was told on the Friday afternoon that there would be a bed on ward 9c, only to be told 20 minutes later that I was being discharged with antibiotics and my notes would be sent on to my local hospital.

I am disappointed with the level of care I received from ward 9, never knowing what was happening with my care, however ward 53 were amazing,  giving me as much information as they had.

Dear Aprilrk88

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow. I am sorry to hear that you found aspects of your care disappointing and that communication regarding your treatment and admission process did not meet your expectations.

We recognise that navigating hospital care, particularly during an urgent health concern, can be stressful, and we regret that you were left feeling uncertain about your treatment plan.

However, we are pleased to hear that the team in Ward 53 provided you with as much information as possible and that their support was appreciated.

If you would like to discuss this further, would you be able to email ggc.southsurgery@nhs.scot with your personal details (including your date of birth).

Thank you

Nicole
