"Excellent after care treatment"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Emergency Surgical Unit (EMSU)

(as a service user),

After suffering a post op infection, and eventually navigating through through an extremely busy A&E department  I was admitted to the EMSU ward.

Following a late night CT scan, the situation was fully explained to me during morning ward rounds and I spent another 3 days in the ward receiving IV  antibiotics before being discharged.

Despite no longer being a ward patient, Kate and the team of nurses were willing and able to continue changing my dressings for the next 7 weekends when the local GP was closed, always taking time out from their normal busy routines to fit me in. This work was greatly appreciated as I am sure it contributed to my wounds healing without any further infections and definitely helped me feel more reassured about the improvement in my condition.

Hi Leo,

My name is Nuala O'Connell, I am the ward manager for ward C3 and EMSU,

Thank you for taking the time to post about your recent experience in EMSU. I will pass on you compliments to Kate and the rest of the team. We are very proud of the service we are able to provide in EMSU to enable continuity of care for our surgical patients, especially when this cannot be facilitated in the primary care sector.

I hope you are continuing to recover at home and again thank you for taking the time to leave such valuable feedback.

Kind regards,

Nuala
