Following an acute medical concern just before 8am in the morning, over a bank holiday weekend, I contacted NHS24 111 Service for help and advice. From start to finish, the process was nothing short of seamless: From the Call Handler, Jill, who took me through the information checking, gathering and recording processes calmly and efficiently, to the lovely Clinician Kim, who took me through the clinical assessment in a professional, knowledgeable and reassuring manner. At all times I felt I was actively listened to and treated with dignity and respect by both Jill and Kim. People skills are so important and even more so when patient concerns are handled over the phone. Kim’s reassuring tone of voice and professionalism made all the difference to how I was feeling. Kim’s clinical assessment, led to a referral and super quick OOH Service appointment and face to face assessment by a wonderful GP. Sadly I cannot remember her name. She also, was very professional, knowledgeable and thorough, as well as taking the time prior to my appointment to study my medical record holistically, by digging deeper under the surface and asking pertinent questions to reveal underlying relevant factors contributing to my presenting complaint.
To summarise, my whole experience was so positive: 10/10 doesn’t even come close. I feel so grateful to live in Scotland and have this wonderful service only a phone call away.
