"Dismissive and argumentative staff member"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France

(as a friend),

My husband and I went to visit a friend in Ward 116.  This ward is signposted along a corridor from the main reception but, once you are going along the corridor, there are no signs to 116 (that we could see).  We walked along as far as A&E and realised we had gone too far.

Coming back we spoke to an orderly who pointed us up some stairs and we quickly found the ward after that.

After our visit, we went to the main desk to pass on our experience and to suggest that signage along the ground floor corridor would be helpful.  The member of staff on the desk said (repeatedly) -  it's on that sign there.  We said yes, but not all along the corridor.  They asked -  what's the problem, you found it?  We explained again and suggested that they pass on this information so that this problem could be solved and other visitors could find the ward. The member of staff told me they couldn't do that.  I asked who their manager was and they refused to tell me.  Their name? They wouldn't tell us that. Throughout they were dismissive and argumentative.

My husband and I are fit and well, we were not anxious about our visit, we speak and hear good and clear English.  Other visitors may not be and a caring and can-do attitude from paid staff should be a given.  We came away upset at out own experience but wanting to do something so that others would not experience the same attitude and lack of service from someone manning the main reception desk.
