Was advised by GP to go to A&E suffering numb left leg and problems walking. Was triaged from and given MRI scan. The decision department was chaotic, large volume of patients and staff seemingly getting stressed by situation. The consultants refused to come on ward, instead phoning down their decision to ward sister, who was tasked with informing patients.
After 12 hours, I was informed that there was no problems with my spinal nerve and could go home. When I challenged this and asked why my left leg was numb and why was I having problems walking, the ward sister informed me that I would be contacted within 6 weeks and seen in outpatients. No one contacted me, forcing me to complain to hospital PALs.
I was then fast-tracked for spinal nerve decompression surgery using the very same MRI scan, which clearly showed nerve damage, when I was told there was none. I feel I was lied to.
A letter was sent to me, copy sent to GP, playing down my disability and mobility, even stating that I walked unaided, which was untrue. I was pushed through the hospital in a wheelchair and walked into the assessment using walking sticks. Following another complaint to PALS, an amended letter was sent out.
I had surgery in January 24, which has not been successful, and I was not referred for a neurological investigation until mid December, when I complained of worsening mobility in June, I phoned on over 12 occasions begging for help, and I was ignored.
I had post-op assessments in June and October, and in both, the original MRI I had was used to assess me - how on earth can an assessment of my deteriorating health and mobility be realised by referring to an MRI scan that was nearly 12 months old and taken before I had even had surgery?
At this time, I cannot walk at all, am housebound and confined to a wheelchair - and I am still waiting for a treatment plan. I trusted the neurosurgery team and feel completely let down.
"I feel completely let down"
