I am about to complete my 20th round of radiotherapy at Derriford Hospital.
Being as I am a hard worker, never been ill in my life until 6 months ago, all went wrong for me as at Easter I fell and damaged the ligaments/ tendons in my shoulder, bit of a setback not not so bad. Then I was told I had prostate cancer, a week later told I had skin cancer, told the skin stuff could be dealt with real quick, which it was thanks to the fantastic care I received
Anyway moving on to the prostate cancer, I must admit I was afraid for the first time in my life, so on my first treatment day I arrived at the unit and was called down to the department where I met a lovely man called Paul, by his own admittance thought I was going to be a really hard non compliance patient and he was right, firstly I selfishly decided to have no treatment and opt out of any medical assistance to do with the cancer, it was very selfish for my daughter and family, but right for me I felt.
Anyway, fast forward to now, with one round left I feel I have to leave feedback on my time under all the people in the department's expert handling of me.
These people are all very special people, they are like angels who deal with people when they are scared, at their mercy and not wanting any treatment really, I cannot stress enough how every single one of them looked after me, very kind and treated me with respect and dignity ,thanks to all of them I've made it till the end, without the special care and empathy shown to me I wouldn't have lasted more then 2 treatments.
I cannot thank you all enough, you're special people as I said and I would gladly call any of you my friends.
Well done team, you absolutely nailed it!!!
