"Hard working, dedicated staff"

My daughter was involved in horse riding accident whilst on a college work placement.  Treated in minor injuries unit, who then advised to attend local A&E department on return home next day as she would need to be referred to orthopaedics.  

I phoned A&E at AAH to establish if this was correct pathway to follow.  Was informed that I should attend their minor injuries unit as it would save waiting time in A&E and could be given an appointment for same.

I did as informed and got an appointment for next day at a time convenient to us.   Attended appointment after a long journey to collect my daughter.  My daughter was seen by an ENP who was efficient, courteous and compassionate.  

On observing that my daughter was exhausted and in obvious pain, and I was concerned, she swiftly engaged with other medical staff who provided analgesia and informed me that the x-rays provided from the other hospital would be reviewed and referred to orthopaedics AAH.  We should receive confirmation of appointment within 7-10 days.  

Firstly, I would just like to praise the staff from A&E on directing me on the right pathway and saving me a long wait in an extremely busy department. The empathy and understanding shown in a simple telephone call reassured me, so Thank you Nurse Boardman for taking the time from your extremely busy day for explaining to me and reassuring me.  

Also, sincere thanks to the team in minor injuries unit who were efficient, compassionate and understanding - from the lovely girl at reception desk (I apologise I didn't catch your name) to nurses Leona and Michaela. Thank you.

 All too often we hear of stories where the experiences are not so positive so I feel I must give credit where credit is due and hope that this story will continue help promote the recognition of the hard working, dedicated staff within the trust.  We will await referral confirmation from orthopaedic team.
