My relative was admitted through 111/OOH GP to the surgical team during a weekend. Every step of the way during her admission she was treated with care, consideration and dignity. The nursing team in Abbey and Wynard were wonderful.
Whilst the wait for her operation and for the discharge review in the morning were longer than desired, given the current pressures on the NHS and the weekend admission this is all understandable.
We particularly appreciated anaesthetic trainee Alex who took the time to see us after the operation to explain the need for an overnight observation.
It would have been appreciated if the surgical team reviewed after the operation to explain how it went but maybe in current times this is no longer feasible given operational pressures to be done the same day. Though I wonder if a post operative patient leaflet might be helpful here to help summarise the operation to help understanding.
