"Death certificate"

About: Borders General Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

An elderly relative died over a week ago, not unexpected and was receiving ’end of life care’ for 3 days or so before

Why then, are family members needing to contact BGH medical staff to ask they send a death certificate to the Registrar to allow the death certificate to be issued and funeral directors then able to collect the body ahead of funeral arrangements.

Simply not good enough- are there processes in place for death certificates to be completed by tostada before the patient body is taken to the mortuary?

Why, when grieving, are family expected to chase this up

Update posted by Concerned29 (a relative)

Hi, can NHS Borders share their protocol on completion of a death certificate by medical staff?

Are the certificates shared electronically with Scottish Borders Council Registrars automatically within a specific time period?

I appreciate if a post mortem examination or referral to Procurator Fiscal is required, there will be a time delay, but understand these should be completed and shared within 8 working days

I look forward to a response
