"Told I do not qualify for any patient accommodation"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I’m having a robotic radical hysterectomy within the next few weeks. I live in a motorhome but I have been told I do not qualify for any patient accommodation at Raigmore.

I find this astonishing. I’m 67 on a pension and have been advised to find a campsite at my own expense. I have no other home, so really am very surprised that there is absolutely no help available for me.

Further to the above - it was later suggested I park in the hospital car park for one night after the operation. And then when I asked - I’m not allowed to drive? No answer. This is disgraceful. I wasn’t asking for weeks in hospital just an extra day or two before having to get a taxi back to campsite I have found which isn’t extortionate. Taxi is around £50 each way.

I don’t know why I can’t get help with travel expenses, or transport, or accommodation, as they haven’t told me. I was getting upset and the person I was speaking to was going round in circles - asking what do I expect them to do? Etc etc so I ended the call.

It's not the NHS I know, having worked all my life and being paid up. I also feel like I have knives in my uterus which doesn’t help.

In my experience, the email address you give does not respond. I have since voiced my concerns to the NHS Highlands Board and am waiting for a response. I also contacted ceu@gov.scot who are aware. I had my robotic hysterectomy, removing ovaries uterus and cervix, completed now.
