"No appointments and poor advice"

About: Melbourne & Chellaston Medical Practice

(as a parent/guardian),

Our toddler (not yet 2) has recurring skin / eczema flare ups. We managed a few months ago to finally get an appointment.

Photos were taken of his skin and we were supposed to get a follow up appointment. Never happened.

A few months later he had another flare up and it got infected. Surprise surprise, impossible to book an appointment over the phone and they passed the buck to the pharmacy.

The pharmacist said they couldn't help as it was too serious for non-prescription meds.

Finally by what felt like pot luck we got an appointment. GP said they were very concerned about his skin and asking why we didn't come in sooner - possibly the most infuriating question. Then said that we shouldn't have gone to the pharmacy (despite them sending us there!)

We were sent to A&E and it turned into a 4 night hospital stay to get the infection under control. The dermatologist told us it could have been avoided if he'd been seen sooner and given the right cream. After they gave us a prescription to go home with his skin was better in less than a week.

One side effect was some periorbital swelling. This started to reappear, and, anxious to avoid another hospital stay we thought we'd get some advice. Not a chance, nothing available at 9.30am, closed for the entire bank holiday, not concerned about the recent lack of treatment resulting in a hospital stay. They passed the buck to the walk in centre and said if we were concerned, we should go there.

When asked if they thought this was good service - they just claimed it's not their fault!
