"Quick detection for baby's heart murmur"

About: Community Midwifery / Craigavon & Banbridge

(as a parent/guardian),

Better late than never as I have finally managed to have the time to decompress over the last few months.  In mid November 2024 I had a planned c-section for my second baby and after two days in hospital we where given the all clear and sent home.  After out initial visit a few days passed and I became concerned as baby was hard to feed, very sweaty, hard to wake and something just didn't seem right.

I rang the Community Midwives and left a message voicing my concerns.  Within an hour Mabel had arrived and after listening to what I had to say she checked baby from head to toe and had explained she had detected a heart murmur.

She was straight on the phone and was exceptional in going through the process of dealing with the hospital, filling in her paperwork and keeping me calm as I was very upset.  When we got to the hospital baby was very unresponsive and was admitted for tests and a infection was detected which had made the heart murmur detectable.  Mabel stayed in touch and organised extra visits for when we were discharged for extra support.

Baby is now under the care of a cardiologist and is doing very well.  Without Mabel's skills and attention to detail I dread to think what could have happened and I am very thankful to her especially but also to all of the team at Banbridge Community Midwives.
