About: Southampton General Hospital

Unfortunately had to go to A&E on a Monday evening with a problem with heart and fainting. I expected it to be busy and to wait for some time, after 2 hours of patiently and anxiously waiting squashed in a line of people in a tiny corridor, having to sit against the open doors to let the trolleys by rushing people in, not one of the patients waiting had been seen properly. One nurse moved down the line taking names and blood pressure readings and giving out pain relief in the corridor. Which is unacceptable but probably to reach a triage target of 2 hours. We were told it was another hour to see a nurse and several hours after that to see a Dr. The atmosphere was terrible with police and security in attendance it was like a war zone. The building is not fit for purpose. The staff were kind and apologised but it’s not their fault. The management of the hospital need to sort this department out. Car parking charges horrendous. In the end I had to leave because I felt too ill!
