"Truly turned my life around"

About: Doncaster CAMHS / Getting Help

(as a service user),

Despite a rocky start within CAMHS, I can honestly say with the support I have now, I finally see a future.

I had a referral put into WMIM which they declined as I was deemed too high risk, but then no further action was taken. It was almost like I was too high risk for one service but not high risk enough for CAMHS. This led to a lot of struggling until CAMHS finally picked me up and offered an assessment.

It started with a referral to EIP, who were brilliant with me and my mum but it was a straight - no this service isn’t for you, which we both expected, so I started within ICST, who picked me up after my referral to EIP. I believe ICST isn’t completely ASD friendly, however there was some good areas. Once I finished with ICST I was referred to the Getting Help team which has led to me being in the best place I am right now.

I had multiple workers that didn’t always work for me until I finally clicked with Danielle.

The Getting Help team supported me with a ASD diagnosis, Family Therapy, Psychiatry and trauma informed work. They helped me work through multiple crises and rough patches and I couldn’t thank them enough.

The worker I have now has done nothing but completely devote herself to me and my family. She’s not just here for me but the whole family, without Danielle I don’t think we’d be where we are right now as a whole family, not just me.

The whole direction of my life has changed, from seeing no way out of my MH difficulties to now wanting to give back to those struggling and use my experiences as a tool to support those who are in the position I was in.

The care I receive is 100% person centred and individual to me, Danielle tries her best to keep me and my family on the straight and narrow.

All my workers and occasionally the team managers have attended meetings at school to support me through education whilst struggling with my MH and gave my schools insight into how to best support me.

Although it started rocky I am very grateful to have stuck with CAMHS as I knew it would eventually look up for me.

On the whole, from my experience with the Getting Help team within CAMHS they are generally a really helpful team and do have the young people’s best interests at heart.

I’ll always be grateful for all that the team has done for me and my family.

Danielle is truly an asset to the team and I could not be more happy with the care I have received and continue to receive from her.
