Yesterday I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy at Warwick Hospital. My treatment was excellent and I am grateful to the highly professional medical staff who carried out the procedures.
The preparation for such procedures is never pleasant, involving as it does the taking of powerful laxatives the evening before and in the early morning of the day in question. I found the early morning laxative particularly stressful because I was still feeling its effects less than an hour before my appointment at 10 am and began to doubt that I would be able be picked up by my neighbour at 9.30 am. As it turned out I took the risk and got safely to my 10 am appointment but, as I said, it was a highly stressful experience.I told my son-in-law about this and he told me that he had had a similar experience but dealt with it by buying an adult nappy from his local pharmacist. This solution to the problem would have reduced my stress enormously and I would like to suggest that it be included in the otherwise comprehensive leaflet give to patients to help them prepare for their appointment.I would like to emphasis that this is not a criticism of what is an outstanding service and is merely a suggestion to facilitate the preparation of patients in the future.
