"Breast cancer"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Breast care service Queen Margaret Hospital / Clinical Oncology Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery

(as a service user),

I had a fall and impact was on my right breast. After a few weeks a felt my breast was different. Not a lump but different. I saw my GP who referred me for a mammogram. That didn’t show anything untoward. However I was called for an ultrasound. It didn’t show anything either but the Dr said she could feel an abnormality. Took biopsies and it was found I had lobular breast cancer. Mastectomy was performed and radiotherapy followed.

Breast nurses were fantastic. Reassuring and positive. They had to drain fluid from the wound several times. If I was concerned they talked me through the healing process. They were my lifeline. I can’t thank them enough for their caring and supportive treatment.
