"Delayed prescriptions of essential medications"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as a service user),

My chemist location I have been using for my repeat epilepsy medications for 9 years, recently this chemist became unreliable and dispensing chemist was changed to avoid issues.

I had been expecting to get text message when medications were ready for collection and had not received this text.

I contacted the GP,  who had not generated and sent my prescription to the new chemist. I contacted GP when I had 1 week's supply remaining. I was told on the Thursday a prescription would be sent that day. I am still awaiting a prescription to be sent to the chemist.

I have now missed a dose of my essential anticonvulsants, I am fearful for the disruption to my health and routine that this may cause. It is not good enough.

Dear Concernedpatient3004,

Sorry to hear there has been a delay in getting your prescritpion from the GP. I hope you managed to get it sorted out? If not, please try phoning the GP practice and explaining the urgency of the situation to the reception staff.

Most of the GP Practices in Grampian are independently run and aren’t registered to respond to feedback received via Care Opinion. They don’t routinely access the feedback either so the practice won’t see this without it going straight to them. As mentioned the best option is to contact the practice directly. I understand this means revealing your identity, but it does mean they will be able to look into the particular details of your experience and hopefully look at what can be done to prevent this happening again.

Unfortunately, the name of the practice isn't shared on Care Opinion so I wouldn't be able to forward this feedback to them at the moment. However, if you would like me to share with them for learning & reflection can you contact me on email: kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot or telephone /text: 07885720267 with the practice name?

Kirsten
