My mum moved to Wishaw from Ayrshire to live with us. We had to get support services to help as she was becoming very frail in her 90s. Part of this care was attending Stewarton Street day centre.
What an amazing place with fantastic support to both my mum and I, ( I work full time). Mum was collected by a taxi ( wheelchair latterly) which provided a huge help to us too. All the carers and drivers were fantastic. Always full of laughter too so we felt so reassured that mum was in good hands. Mum always came home happy and sometimes with things she had made!
The centre was proactive with armchair exercises, crafting and singing. The food was excellent too. This centre provided the much needed company for my mum of people her own age but helped us too knowing she was safe which allowed me some headroom too with work etc.
Caring for loved ones is a full time job so it is essential that carers have breaks. The staff from Stewarton Street recognised this before we did!
Anyway I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone there, you have no idea how important your work and support is.
