"NHS experience after heart attack"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

In April I had a heart attack at home.

10.30am 1st responder attended.

10.50am Ambulance crew arrived and blue lighted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (ERI) The staff were friendly and professional.

12 noon arrived PCI ERI, nurse waiting.

Immediately into the operating area with 2 nurses and a radiographer in attendance.

Doctor Northridge and his assistant Dr Ali performed angiogram with balloon procedure.

2.04pm into Cardiology HDU ward 114 and settled.

15 minute obs checks for 24 hours. Doctor visited twice a day.

Fed and watered regularly and checked on regularly until my discharge home some 48hrs later

The Doctor and all of the team, including housekeepers and food attendants treated me with such respect and kindness. I'd never been in hospital overnight.

The attentiveness and professionalism from strangers helped me tremendously.

I've written to the Scottish Government leaders and NHS CO as they need to know what excellence felt like for me as a patient, but importantly to perhaps use this model as best practice within the NHS. Resources make the difference and that they are used to good effect. Take a bow all staff who helped me. You all knew what you were doing and when to do it. Your humanity shone through.  Magical and very powerful.

Thank you for taking time out from recovery to write to us. I was very moved by your writing. I will make sure this is shared with the team they will be equally as moved and pleased they were able to help during what must have been a very stressful time for you.

Thank you again and please take care of yourself.

Michelle

Hi JLMcG,

I just wanted to thank you for your kind comments about all of the NHS staff who cared for you recently.

Your positive comments will be greatly appreciated by them, particularly given you have taken the time to post them so soon after your recent heart attack.

Our staff love to hear from patients and their families about their experience and when they reach out to say thank you.

Take care in your recovery and thanks again.

Mark
