"Everyone passing can see the reason for your visit"

About: University Hospital Ayr / X-rays and Scans

(as a service user),

I experienced my first MRI which was down at the MRI Van in Ayr. The instructions on the letter were clear regarding what to do on arrival and where to sit. However, not sure how person centred sitting in the main foyer with a sign above you saying sit here for MRI van. This doesn't seem very confidential as everyone passing through can identify the reason for  your visit. You also have to call the service to let them know you have arrived which isn't private. You then have to walk along the corridor to reach the van.

I feel it would be more appropriate to have the waiting area closer to the MRI van. I must say the care I was given when having my MRI was brilliant and can't fault the staff.

Dear Dickie Bird

Thank you so much for taking the time to share feedback on your healthcare experience with us via Care Opinion.

I am very sorry to read about the situation you have described. Please be assured that this is not the person centred care that we strived to provide within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Whilst we always aim to provide care that is person centred, we do recognise that sometimes we get it wrong. When we do, we are committed to learning and improving and hearing experiences, good and bad, directly from our patients is one of the best ways for us to capture this valuable feedback.

I have highlighted your comments about the waiting area to the Service Manager so that your observations can be shared within the Team for reflection on how they can improved this situation for further patients waiting in this area.

I am glad to hear that the care you were given whilst in the MRI van was brilliant. I know the staff there will be delighted to hear this.

Please accept my best wishes and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
